Marc Brown Arthur Books Intervention Group Study

Some of my previous students did an author study of Marc Brown's Arthur books. From an author interview, his writing process, the history of his books, the characters, and a "How To" art segment, these videos cover quite a bit of learning!

 Here is all their hard work!  Good job second graders!!!  I am so proud of everyone.

Osmo ipad Learning

I purchased (with my own money) the learning tool Osmo for the ipad.  We have not been disappointed.  Here is the class working on "Guess My Word" picture puzzles.  Using clues, they must guess and spell what the picture is on the ipad.  Lots of learning and cooperation going on here!

I just purchased the new Osmo number game for the ipad.  It is nice for my intervention group because we are working on addition.  This has a different levels to work with counting dots and putting numbers into addition equations.  

It does more but the students have not unlocked those levels yet!

Sophie Reading Her Mom's Book

Sophie brought a book to school her mother had written.  She was so excited to share it with the class.  It was about her cat, Sheldon, and herself.  Needless to say, she loved sharing it, and we loved hearing her read it to us!

Creepy Carrots

We read a funny, creepy book about a rabbit and carrots called "Creepy Carrots." It has lead to a lot of fun learning in our classroom. We have discussed the main idea and key details. We have written our favorite details from the story. We found the characters, setting, problem and 2 solutions in the story. We sequenced the story using first, then, next, last transition words. We wrote adjectives about the carrots after they solved their problems. Of course, we made creepy carrots, too! One type of Creepy Carrot was a reversible finger puppet the students could use to retell the story.  We also made a quick movie of the "tunk, tunk" sound effect of carrots creeping up on you, the breathing sound effects of carrots in your room, and Jasper the rabbit seeing the carrots.
