Text Feature Scavenger Hunt

The students have been learning about different types of text features in informational text. To prove their understanding of this topic they had to go on a scavenger hunt in informational books and take pictures of the features we had discussed in class. I printed the photographs and the students had to sort them. They created labels for our large informational anchor chart out the in the hallway and put the photographs under the proper headings. They did a wonderful job!

This was music class last week.  All the students got a turn getting to play  the instruments.  They love getting to do this during class.  I love that my students get a chance to have real musical instruments in their hands!

Whack-a-Spelling-Word

I introduced a new word-work activity this week called "Whack-a-Word."  The compound spelling words are difficult for students this week so I thought the fun and movement of this game might help them.  They sure do try hard to beat the clock and spell the words by whacking the letters on their alphabet mat.

Whole Brain Teaching Sight Word Practice

In my intervention group this term we have been doing timed readings to become more fluent in the first 100 sight words.  Oh what fun the students are having.  They love beating a level and getting to color a new star in the back of their books.

My Valentines, a Little Time, and a Little Snow

Time for my sweeties in a Valentine movie.  Most of these photos were taken on the 100th day of school this year (unless the child was absent).

This is an extra movie of learning to tell time to the hour.
I should put in our snowflake video since we have had so much snow this past week!

Awards and Positive Reward Party

We had our awards ceremony and first Mountaineer Madness positive reward party on Friday.  It was so much fun. The students had so many options to choose from for their 3 rotations of fun.  The choice menu included karaoke, yoga, outdoor recess, movies, Legos, science experiments, blocks, drawing, reading room, arts and crafts, board games, ipads, computer lab, trains and cars, and math games!   So many choices, so little time!  Below are some of the photos from the awards ceremony and my "block room" and Miss Buckley's "yoga room."

Groundhog Day Fun

We had fun on Ground Hog Day completing a survey of everyone's opinions about if the groundhog would see his shadow.  The class read a readers theater and completed a math activity that resulted in the groundhogs face.
